A minimum of 25 percent of the net income from each domestic Affiliate Race supports the national Komen for the Cure Grant Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific conferences around the world.
Up to 75 percent of the net income from each domestic Affiliate Race stays in the local community to fund breast health education, breast cancer screening and treatment projects.
|Brief Summary of Funding Priorities - Action Plan|
|Priority One: Increase breast health awareness and understanding of the importance of screening in the West Michigan Affiliate service area with emphasis on Montcalm, Muskegon and Newaygo Counties, targeting: African American, rural, and Hispanic populations.|
|Priority Two: Through strategic outreach activities increase delivery of screening opportunities in the Affiliate service area, most particularly in Montcalm, Muskegon and Newaygo Counties. The goal is to further access and increase the number screened. Screening services can include annual care as well as high risk and genetic testing.|
|Priority Three: Increase access to breast cancer treatment services among men and women in need of treatment with a focus on Montcalm, Muskegon and Newaygo. Strive to improve and increase access to treatment in Montcalm, Muskegon, and Newaygo Counties by minimizing the barriers to entry with transportation initiatives, co-pay assistance or other support.|
